Alan Stein: Off-Season Workouts for a Championship

Basketball Strength Video with Coach Alan Stein, Professional Basketball Strength Coach and owner of Stronger Team Strength & Conditioning Coach, Montrose Christian (MD) High School The ability to compete is something that must be developed in practice everyday. Alan Stein believes that players should be taken out of their comfort zone to make them tougher physically and mentally. A standardized warm-up sets the tone for the difficulty of the workout. Demonstrated are 11 tennis ball drills, with variations, for agility, quickness and anticipation training. Dynamic flexibility becomes a conditioned response for players. Coach Stein shares nine drills to prepare players for full speed practice, as opposed to the sitting stretch philosophy. To work on help defense, Stein uses cones and colors to put players through an intense defensive drill. It is key to visualize the play when doing drills, not just reacting to commands. Other drills are the Touch Glass Outlet, get backs, Spin-Retreat-Break and the 4 man/3 points drill. Heavy balls are used in the conditioning phase of this program. Stein also shares seven basketball-specific conditioning drills. This presentation concludes with finishing drills that demand concentration and endurance. 73 minutes. 2007.
