Jeff Young: The Four Phase Individual Improvement Workout

Youth Basketball Strength Video with Coach Jeff Young, Walsh University Head Coach This outstanding individual improvement program is comprised of: Ball handling, finishing moves, shooting, and speed/strength. A typical workout incorporates the four phases and lasts about 45 minutes. Coach Young uses six drills in the ball handling segment to work on stance, head up and control of the ball. Partner drills such as Figure 8, catch & pass, and one dribble/pass make for good early practice drills. The shooting segment begins with technique shooting done in the paint. Stationary and one-dribble 3-point drills improve long-range efficiency, and 32 is a shooting game that creates competition and accuracy from the 3-point range. Finishing moves at the basket make players focus on scoring from short range. Young teaches the jump stop, reverse pivot, one dribble and lay-up moves in this segment. A proponent of intense conditioning, Young's unique approach to strength and flexibility improvement combines ball handling and lay-ups with the resistance of the bands. without the ball, Young demonstrates slide technique drills with the band. This is an excellent individual improvement workout! 70 minutes. 2007.
