Lorenzo Romar: 10 Game Relevant Ball Handling Drills

Youth Basketball Practice Organization Video with Coach Lorenzo Romar, University of Washington Head Coach The ball handling drills used in camps and in many practices help players gain the feel and command of the ball. These drills lose their effectiveness when situations in the game require much more. This is where Coach Romar's drills are much more applicable to playing in the game. The on-floor action starts with the one-on-one in a box drill. This challenges the ball handler to get past the defender with very little room, very efficiently. Catching the ball and pivoting are the focus of the 2 second/two dribbles drill. Another great drill is operational one-on-one, which starts at half court. Two defenders are involved against a single offensive player. Each of this drills have been created from realistic situations in games. There is consistent pressure on the ball, putting stress on the ballhandler to make good decisions. Other drills include; zig/zag to one-on-one, pass to one-on-one, driving the closeout & pass option, transition, full speed finish and the full court 6 second drill. The physical, intense and competitive nature of these drills make them invaluable at game time. 64 minutes. 2007.
