PERIMETER SKILL DRILLS TO ENHANCE SHOOTING

Youth Basketball Skills Video with Coach Dave Spiller, the "Shot Mentor" and former assistant coach with Ohio State, Boston College, St. Joseph's and Fordham. The concept of exaggerating mechanics to develop shot consistency is the core of Dave Spiller's teaching. Proper shooting skills are honed by form shooting from close range. Coach Spiller encourages players to move progressively back as they master shots. Spiller teaches to keep balance in the catching stance. Players are encouraged to "be ready" and step into the catch before shooting. Other skills demonstrated include: passing, footwork, ripping, pivoting, v-cuts and power dribbles. Spiller shows how using screens is another effective way to get free for a shot, and also, how not only is the cutter (off a screen) a shooting option, but shows how the screener is too! The angle and location on the floor dictates the shape up of the screener. The crossover, step back and flare are all demonstrated. Using two chairs, the three-man, 2-ball drill incorporates several key skills. Defenders are added to make a 2-on-2 drill with screening, cutting and shooting. The workout concludes with a shot competition drill. 62 minutes. 2008.
